New York College Baseball League (NYCBL)

____________________________

I went to see our Glens Falls Golden Eagles play on August 5 in the final round of the NYCBL Eastern League Playoffs. Unfortunately our team lost to Amsterdam Mohawks 6-4 which means the Eagles are finished for the season.

I really enjoyed the game and am sorry I haven’t been before. These kids are pretty good and are from colleges all around the country. They love the game and just want someone to notice them in hopes of playing professionally after graduating.

The league operates of a shoestring budget. It’s funny to see a replacement go into the game and he will use the glove of the player he replaces. Also there are few bats around; one player bats and then the next player uses the same bat. And, if you catch a foul ball, you have to throw it back. Oh, and this league uses wooden bats!

But after saying all of the above, it was a good game. There have been a number of players going to the “Big Show” over the years and today there are several playing AAA Ball who are waiting to be called up to the Majors.

I know next year I will take in more games!

________________________________

I know some of my southern family and friends might not think that Glens Falls is my home town, but after about twenty years of living in Queensbury, I think I should call this HOME.

Yeah I said Queensbury and not Glens Falls; just a little history lesson on the area. Glens Falls, until 1908, was a village in the Town of Queensbury. After 1908, it became a City and a separate municipal government (yeah we have a lot of municipal governments around here).Since Glens Falls was the village in the Town of Queensbury, and since Queensbury doesn’t have a “downtown” (are you following me?); Glens Falls is my downtown! Oh! Queensbury’s population, at about 28,000, is more than double that of the City of Glens Falls. Go Figure!
