Letter from Hong Kong - #4

Dim Sum or Yum Cha! Don't you just love the sound of these phases! Of course all who have ever partake of these Chinese delicacies will know what a great Chinese Tradition this is; it not just eating, it is also Family Time!

This is a picture of a small restaurant in Tuen Mun where we had Dim Sum with Jenny's niece and her husband, Grace & Tony, and Yee Lo. Part of the tradition, is for a designated person go early and sit at the table until the rest of the family can come. As you can see above, a gentleman is reading his paper "holding down a table".
Top part of this picture is the menu and the bottom is the order sheet; just check the items you want and give to the waitess. The other way to order is to stop a waitress who walks around the restaurant calling out what she has. It is all part of the enjoyment of Yum Cha (drink tea).

The group after devouring a lot of dim sum and drinking much tea.

Even though there are about seven million people in Hong Kong, getting around getting around HK isn't that difficult and it is so inexpensive at least for seniors. With the Octopus Card, one can charge a trip on the subway, bus, light bus, ferry trams and also buy groceries! We can go just about anywhere, the airport line excluded, for about HK$2.00 or US$0.26; yes that is correct, twenty-six cents US. Not bad is it? Even regular fare would only be about US$2.00 depending on distance travel with short distances even less.
